On October 8, 2018, Under Secretary of the Navy Thomas B. Modly, on behalf of the Secretary of the Navy, announced the U.S. Navy would commission the fourth ship in U.S. history to be named for the City of Cleveland, Ohio. Since the turn of the 20th century, three previous U.S. Navy ships have carried the name of our fair city, the storied histories of which are detailed in this section. We eagerly look forward to the commissioning and service of yet another warship that will carry the name Cleveland around the globe on behalf of the American people.
